Posted on Friday, September 19th, 2008
Peace Over Violence today launched www.youthoverviolence.org, a new violence prevention website aimed at young people, where they can talk about violence prevention and share information about dating and sexual violence. The site will also showcase teen-produced videos and works of art.
www.youthoverviolence.org features Peace Over Violence’s youth dating and sexual violence prevention curricula, including:
• Be Strong: empowerment curriculum for at-risk girls
• My Strength: a national curriculum that targets boys to become allies in violence prevention.
• In Touch With Teens: dating and sexual violence prevention for middle and high school students.
• Students Together Organizing Peace: student organized clubs that focus on campus specific peace projects.
• Peer 2 Peer: peer counseling curriculum run through training high school students.
Additionally, the site includes opinion polls with real-time results, digital stories, photos, poetry, and art created by teens from Peace Over Violence’s prevention programs. Joining the website’s email/mailing list will allow members to receive updates, invitations to special events, and a regular newsletter.
“Preventing violence in our homes, relationships, and communities is one of the biggest challenges for the next generation,” said Patti Giggans, executive director, Peace Over Violence. “This website provides a space for teens to talk about these issues and commit to ending violence now.”
Youthoverviolence.org is made possible by a grant from Blue Shield of California Foundation, with additional funding from the Verizon Foundation and the Weingart Foundation.
This website is a project of Peace Over Violence, formerly the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women
