What Be Strong activity has had the most impact on your life, and why?

The feminist history activity was very informative. I learned that women were just as important in history. Instead of learning “history,” we learned “herstory.” And this encouraged me in my life to know that I can do anything I put my mind too just like the women from herstory. I can achieve anything a man can achieve, for example, I want to be the first female NFL football coach and now I believe that I can achieve that.

Speaking in front of the Mayor and other city officials on teen dating violence was a very rewarding experience. Adults and professionals actually were listening to me, a teen, talking about our relationships and they took me seriously. When they applauded and stood in my honor, I realized that being in the Be Strong program was an important cause.

Breaking down music lyrics and analyzing media messages and how they represent women was a activity that really opened my eyes. It made me see that the music I listen to was very degrading to females and deprive us of our self-esteem. Now before I start bobbing my head to the music, I’ll take the time to analyze if the message is positive or negative.
