Introducing the Be Strong Curriculum‏

Peace Over Violence is launching our Be Strong Curriculum.

Be Strong is an asset-based health promotion and violence prevention curriculum empowering young women ages 13-19. The curriculum builds on concepts of womanhood, respect, and positive relationships as a strategy for health promotion and violence prevention.

Be Strong has been piloted and implemented in eight Los Angeles Unified School District schools during the 2008-2009 school year. It is aligned with California Department of Education Academic Curriculum Standards and the 40 Developmental Assets® for Adolescents (ages 12-18) identified by Search Institute. Also, the curriculum is evidence-informed by independent data analysis conducted by Harder + Co.

The curriculum is currently available for a discounted nonprofit/school price of $95 (plus shipping and sales tax) ($145 Regular Price). Also, available are Peace Over Violence facilitator trainings for organizations. Please contact trina@peaceoverviolence.org for more information.

To download the Be Strong Brochure and Sales form<ahref ="http://www.youthoverviolence.org/media/downloables/bestrong_brochure.pdf"> click here

The goal of the Be Strong program is designed to empower female youth and to encourage them to develop healthy, non-violent relationships. Acknowledging the complexities of female adolescents, this program covers a range of topics relevant to young women from gender roles, relationships, and teen dating violence, to sexual health, media gender stereotypes, beauty, and internet use.

The participants will support one another as they apply these concepts to promote self-respect among teenage girls. The Be Strong program will challenge girls to break through barriers and stereotypes, empowering them to reconstruct their own positive definition of young womanhood.</ahref>

February 2010 is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month

Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month is an initiative to raise knowledge and responsiveness to teen dating violence among teens, parents, and communities. Every year, over 10% of California teens report being in an abusive relationship. One in three teens reports knowing a friend or peer who has been hit, punched, kicked, slapped, or physically hurt by a partner.

During February, join Peace Over Violence in spreading awareness about teen dating violence. Schedule an assembly at school, distribute materials during lunch, schedule a presentation on teen dating violence, create a poster or essay contest. Peace Over Violence can help you!
